I still remember watchin the promo for this movie on TNT/TCM durin the good old days of WCW Monday Nitro which they used to put on TNT evry saturday nights !! Well that time i never knew bout th greatness of this movie !! And well this is one of the few of the top of the top IMDB top 250 movies that i ve not yet seen.. Main reason was that i never got hold of a torrent with good amount of seeds and leechs.. But finally i ve got hold of one.. :)

Review:

While my personal Bogey favorite is still his Sam Spade in 'The Maltese Falcon', his cynical nightclub owner, Rick, in 'Casablanca', is also a standout. Rather than some "off the cuff" comments, I'll quote instead from my article on Claude Rains (from March 2000 issue of CLASSIC IMAGES) that pretty well sums up the film:

"It was 1943's 'Casablanca', bustling with melodramatic wartime intrigue, that really put him (Claude Rains) in the forefront as one of the screen's smoothest character actors, almost--but not quite--stealing the film from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, as the uniformed Captain Louis Renault who investigates the goings-on at Rick's notorious cafe.

Nobody associated with the film guessed that it would become a screen classic, least of all its director, Michael Curtiz, the prolific WB director to whom it was just another assignment. It went on to win the Oscar for Best Film of 1943 with an award for Curtiz' taut direction.

Oddly enough, the film's memorable airport ending was written and conceived just shortly before filming wrapped up, with neither Bergman nor Bogart knowing whether or not she would leave him for husband Paul Henried. Wartime audiences loved the film. Sydney Greenstreet, Conrad Veidt, Victor Francen and Peter Lorre all gave sterling performances and Rains was again nominated for Best Supporting actor."

And by the way, I disagree with a former comment indicating the black and white photography of this film was primitive as compared to today's. Incredible nonsense!! As a matter of fact, the film's black and white cinematography was nominated for an Oscar!

Ingrid Bergman was at the peak of her radiant beauty in this one--and Bogey was firing on all six cylinders. Great chemistry!

As time goes by, we still have 'Casablanca'...

Although the second movie of the great star wars saga , its the best of all the 4 that i ve seen and rightly so , its at the top of the IMDB 250 ahead of the other three movies !! Wat makes it different from the rest is that its DARK && DARTH !!! Wen other movies have a goody goody kinda ending , this movie alone stands out with the darkness surrounding it , that keeps us at the edge of our seats through out the entire film !!!! Although u can watch it straight away jus for continuity purposes , u can start wit Episode 4 and then move on to this.. The Movie that started it all , Star wars Episode 4 wil be comin soon on my site !!

I first came to know bout this movie wen i was preparing for a quiz competition. This is one of the three movies that has won the Oscar grandslam i.e best movie,director,actor,actress& screenplay all in one year.. And true to this, it was a wonderful experience watchin this movie today :) Yup.. jus watched it.. Wat a touching story ! Its one of those movies in which u don realize the inner meaning that it tries to imply while watchin it.. When u contemplate on it a few hours after watchin the movie u ll surely get to know the inner meanin hidden in it.. Live life to the fullest and the way u want it ! Thats one of the main msgs delivered in this movie ! Reeely a wonderful performance by Jack nicholson although it reminded me of the role he played in The Departed.. The only drawback i felt was the climax which although is touching is also very unrealistic !!!

IMDB rating : 8.8/10
