First i need to agree that i never was a fan of these War movies !! Films like Pearl harbour , Black hawk down or Behind Enemy Lines never appealed to me much -the main reason maybe because i could nt connect with the Emotions of the movie and its characters - who were often patriotic American soldiers !! But this perspective of me completely changed after i watched this flick !! I actually landed upon this movie while browsing through the filmography of Francis ford Coppola- more famous for none other than his GodFather - And when i found out that even Marlon Brando is in it , i immediately downloaded it and watched !

And to my pleasant surprise , i found that the movie was there - making a huge Anti-war statement !! And this is one of the main reasons i loved this movie , as a person who was fed up with movies that glorified war and held it up in sanctity !! And the second thing that made me to love it was how that Anti-war statement was made through a gripping screenplay that revolves around a dialogue between its protoganists Brando and Sheen !! And finally ofcourse the acting by Brando(whose acting although is not as gripping as in the Godfather) and especially Martin Sheen !!

With bomb-blasts happening all around India and the country on high-alert , on the lighter side , there was a blast of a different kind yesterday !! Yup, it was my college bus-mate and close friend Murali's B'day blast !! Well , we 7 guys in our College bus - are pretty close and we make it a point to celebrate every birthday as enjoyably as possible !! But all these days , we were in college and so the birthdays were celebrated in the bus itself , simply by cutting a cake and then with song and dance ! :) This time it was different ! we are passed-outs now and so planned on something different ! So why not a surprise ??! :)

Since it was our first-ever surprise , we kept things plain and simple ! The usual - "Dont wish the guy - Make no plans - Upset the guy - But finally land up in his home" thing !!! :p And it worked out pretty well !! :) We , and also his school friends , were all in his house at 5.30 with a cake , on which was written - "Murali loves Puppy-ma" .. he he.. the nick-name of the gal , we tease him with ! He was really surprised - and even more surprised when he saw the cake ! :) And what not ? We even showed that to his Mom - who dint know what to say after seeing that ! he he.. Don know what happened after we left his home !! He he.. Sorry da ! We almost made your b'day a tragedy for u :p

And for the first time in our bus b'days history - we did continuous video coverage with my deranged 2 MP Nokia mobi cam :)

Its been a loooong time since i last reviewed IMDb No.32 - Lawrence of arabia !! I was way goin over-board these past weeks , deviating much from the main theme of my blog - the IMDB Top 250 !! Well , one reason maybe i lost interest and faith is the IMDB Ranking system at all - after seeing the Dark Knight at No.1 !! But i ve got over it now and Well , am finally back on track and i hope to put on atleast 3 to 4 movies from the 250 every week !!

So talking about Se7en , well i hope most of you must have seen and enjoyed this flick - cos not only was it a success from the critics point of view - it was also a huge blockbuster hit !! And to me its surely the No.2 Serial killer- physocological thriller movie only next to The Silence of the lambs !! This is one movie , that you cant find any mistake or regrets about !! Its Perfect film-making at its best !! Original story- Gripping Screenplay - Unimaginable Climax and most of all Marvellous acting from the 4 main characters of the movie - makes it one of the most Perfect movies i ve seen !!! Many compare this with David Fincher's another movie - zodiac ! But there aint no comparison at all !! Se7en is Film making at its best , where as i can find umpteen no. of faults with Zodiac and still just done half way through !

He he.. First of all sorry for this deranged kinda pic.. It was the one i took at the closing moments of the play "Doubles , Triples , Quadruples - Nobody stays single" , staged at the Chinmaya Heritage center , Nungambakkam , a brand new play by the famous Theater ppl of Chennai - EVAM , this weekend!! It was one heck of a new experience for me !! I had always had this clechade thought that Plays,Theater and Drama like these were only made for the High Society and the Cream of it ! And well for us the - so called - Middle class - well no prizes for guessing - MOvies !! But then i really felt that i had wasted a great part of my youth , without watchin plays like these ! It was just awesome and i loved every bit of it !! It was nt a continuos story though ! There was some 6 to 8 bits of drama woven together nicely with Stand-up acts between each of them !! It was Romantic-comedy at its Best !! :) My favourite part though was the Full- slapstick part just before the half way ! It was a satirical mock-filled take on the Climax of my very own Favourite Quentin's Reservoir Dogs !! MAN - I have nt laughed like that in years !!! Got my eyes filled with tears after laughing that much !! Anyway am looking fwd to their next play - Odd Couple playing next month !! And finally i would also like to thank my friend Soms for gettin me tickets to go n watch it !! :)

But then as i walked out after watching this movie , i felt , SURE it was a Damn great movie !!! THE Best Super hero movie i ve ever watched in my life(the previous was Batman Begins - its predecessor) !! The closest a superhero movie can get to a Normal-life drama packed with emotions and psychological brilliance !! The best movie of the year so far !! THE Best Performance by a villain i have seen ever since Sir Anthony Hopkin's portrayal of Hannibal Lectar in The Silence of the Lambs !! Am sure that Ledger would get the second ever Posthumous Oscar in history !! MAN ! What a performance ! Got no words to describe him !! And a surprise package in the form of Aaron Eckhart - his performance was the 2nd best in the movie which was filled with characters playing their roles perfectly !! Although CG was good , i felt it could have been even more good , especially during the fight sequences !! The same was with the Background score !! And finally , the climax was great too !


BUTTTT , Are we missing an important point somewhere ??? HMMMM.... Is this what movies are all about ???! Comic book adaptation !! Unrealistic plot !! Over the top characters !! Aint Real movies are those which depict Human life & Reality - the human sense , emotions, behaviour , psychology,etc ??! Hmmmm.. I leave it that to your discussion !! Although i Stand by my Point !! I loved this movie but it does nt deserve to be on top of Shawshank redemption - No movie can ever have a SOUL to it like Shawshank did - Nor on top of the Godfather - Although its an oscar winnin performance from Ledger , NONE can beat Brando and Pacino as The Corleaones - Nor can it beat Pulp fiction - with Quentin's stunning dialogues and story-telling !! SO , May be it may deserve to be in the Top 10 , but definitely NOT No.1 !!! Hope that day comes soon ! :)

Well , am still recovering from the SHOCK of my life !!!! Just now hopped to the IMDB Top 250 to write review the next movie on my list !! And MAN !! Am shocked to the core !! I found the Dark Knight at No.4 yesterday !! And now , i cant believe to see it at No.1 !!!!!!!!!! How can it be possible for it to beat movies like the Godfather and shawshank Redemption ?!!! Its a Super hero movie for Gods sake !!!! Well, I could not make any more further comments on this , because i have nt seen the movie yet !! Am watchin it tomorrow or the day after , and i ll be back to say whether it truly deserves the No.1 Spot !!!

Just for information - Two weeks back , Wall-e debuted at No.4 in IMDB Top 250 , Now it has got down to No.22 and still decreasing down the ladder ! Think(and i hope) the same thing willl happen to the Dark Knight too !! We have to wait and see for what happens !!

I had always hated smoking !! One reason is , My dad used to be a Chain Smoker and it almost cost his well-being!! Luckily he quit smoking soon after he had some initial health problems !! Another reason is that Unlike drinking(which i dislike too) which only affects the drinkers health, Smoking injures not only the smoker but also people around him !! So please try to quit smoking , else atleast get an air cleaner to stop bugging otheres with your smoke !! I knew it did nt fare that much well with critics and IMDB had given it only an average score ! So i did nt go with much expectations - even then i was pretty disappointed ! Mainly because of the Reallyy KOOL and absolutely Awesome first half of the movie !! It was the most original suff i ve seen in years !! I have never seen such humour for a long time !! Everyone of us were laughing like anything !! But then , once the second half started things took a wild turn with a not-so intersting twist in the movie , and things became USUAL Superhero-flick stuff !! After enjoying the first half sooo much , i was irritated by the emotions and the yet-another-superhero movie atmosphere of the second half !! As we left the hall , all of us were of the same opinion that if the humour was there in the 2nd half too , it would ve been a great movie !! But then as he says now n then in the movie , i can say the movie was only a "Good job" and only for the first half !! Ppl who still wanna watch it - Guys , Dark Knight has released now !! Go watch that !! :-/

Well right from childhood , i was really fascinated by these documentaries !! I loved watchin em on Discovery Channel , Animal Planet , etc ! Thats why i was excited to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" when it released , but as usual , like for many other documentaries - there was nt much exposure for it , here in India , and so I missed to have a glance at it !! My wish was only fulfilled last week when i watched it on HBO :) Though a software engineer now , i did biology in my high school and had an entire lesson on Global Warming and Environmental Pollution and so knew most things about it and also there was this event conducted by the organisation "Green Peace" in my school , where they explained to us everything about Global Warming !!

So while starting to watch this movie , i thought to myself , "What more can Mr.Gore tel me that i don know about global Warming??!!" And to my surprise - I was Surprised !!! :) Just becos all that i knew about the topic ,came to an end in just 10 mins into the movie ! :) After that , It was a full-fledged learning experience for me ! He he , i would nt even have listened to my College classes as attentively as to what Al Gore was sayin !! What i liked bout him was his Charm and charisma through which he delivers the point across ! I now wonder if he had been elected President instead of Bush , Would the US and the world been a better place ???? HMMMM.. Lets not go into that :) so comin back , this is a MUST watch movie to everyone born on planet earth !!

Watchin this movie , i only remembered wat my mom usually says during the noons in the hot summer over here whens tempearature soars over 110' F , "God , Why are you torturning us like this!!" , I hope God replies back to my mom and to everyone else "Dear , Its not me torturing you , Its yourselves !!" :)

All of you know that am a software engineer now !! But at high school , due to compulsion from my parents and teachers , i had to take Biology - since they thought i had a huge scope of getting into one of the medical colleges - which by the way is very much restricted only to the cream of the cream students !! But all the way through i had this deep fervour for Computers and Programming ! This made me to join Certified computer courses during my summer holidays every year in nearby institutions !! One year i did my PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applicatins) and the next , i did DIWT(Diploma in Web Technology) !! My next goal was to do the much talked about CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Administrator course which is one of the many Cisco certification offered now !! But then , things took a wild turn , and i missed out on Medicine by just a .5 cut-off mark and hence had to get into an Engineering college(Since besides Bio i had also taken Maths as another Major) and study my favourite Comuter science ! :) Even now , I would love to do CCNA when i get time , because this certification is so much acknowledged in my field and it would definitely give me an upper hand where ever i go !!! :) Cisco offers three levels of general IT certification namely Associate, Professional, and Expert in tracks such as Routing and Switching, Network Security, and Service Provider etc ., so that you can match your certification path to your job role or industry. I write this post in Awe , after watching the Prologue of The Dark Knight - the sequel to Batman Begins ( i mean the Batman movies , ever since Christopher Nolan took over the direction of this previously- "yet another" super hero flick) !! If you thought Batman Begins took Super Hero movies to a completely different level , then just wait for whats in store with this !! The first six minutes of this movie were was absolutely stunning to say the least making me to say "I jus cant wait for it once it relases in theaters tomoro" !! The premiers are already over and critics have given it a "Thumbs Up" !! The USP of the flick , more than Christian Bale as Batman - is the Villain - "Joker" played by Late Heath Ledger !! Many say he will be the second ever person to win an Oscar Posthumously !! I hope its so , cos i was stunned by him in the Prologue !! I first saw this film on its release, aged 13, and it forms an important part of my transition towards adulthood. I am pleased to see that it consistently rates 20something in the IMDb listings, even from others (whom I envy, for I can't see it with fresh eyes) who are seeing it for the first time. Pleasing too is that some of those are also teenagers, for whom a forty-three year old film must itself seem part of the past. As for the minority who are bored by intentionally slow pacing (and for whom punctuation, paragraphing and grammar are a lost art), I suggest they learn a little about the history of film-making (from which it may become apparent that much of today's fast editing techniques were invented in the 1920s: try Eisenstein's October, for example).

From the universally admired cinematography of Freddie Young, the long shot of Omar Sharif's floating mirage entry, the pre-CGI battles and pan-up scene changes, to O'Toole's florid but career-defining performance and the (then) novel time-shift narrative, this film set standards not matched even by Lean himself, and, as many reviewers have commented, financially and practically unlikely to be attempted today. I too have rarely seen such clarity of image outside of Imax, and in my view the script by Robert Bolt (and I now have learnt, an uncredited Michael Wilson) is the finest in cinema. Maurice Jarre's music and some of the acting style now seem a little excessive, but repeated viewing (around 35 times in my case) does not diminish the impact and quality, and the restoration and now DVD release still, after all these years, approaches the effect of that first 1962 viewing.

It is rare that repeated watching of a film (as opposed to a live performance) does this, and the reasons go beyond the photography, performances and editing. In my opinion, it is because the characterisation and storytelling encourage an appreciation of the ambiguity and inconsistency behind our motives and behaviour, and, in a wartime scenario, in the contrast between political expedience and personal morality. For a 13-year old, this opened a window into the adult world, and it explains why the story has resonance far beyond its setting. The film doesn't require an understanding of middle-east politics (though it does have some very current relevance), but it does require an ability to look, listen and understand. The fact that so many people rate it so highly says everything about its wider impact. When The Matrix and even Lord of the Rings have slipped out of the ratings (and the adolescents who inhabit these pages have grown up), I believe this film will still be in the 20s or 30s, perhaps enabling young people to once again see the world through adult eyes.

Like Ali, I fear Lawrence. I fear the power of art to change us, to challenge our preconceptions. Every time I see this film I learn a little more, discover something new. When I was 13 I didn't understand much, but this film helped me to see that I wanted more, knew more, than my peers. I can't rate it more highly than that.

Talking about the Brangelina twins in my last post , immediately brought to my mind , nothing but the little angel of the Brad Pitt of South India - Ultimate Star Ajith's new born daughter !! Now someone temme why this flick aint there at the top ?!!! Cos its jus yet another comedy ??!! Ahn - aaahn !!! It aint just another comedy !! Its one of the most intelligent-ly made movies of our times !! Comedy and humour is just a tool used by Sacha Baron Cohen to prove across to ppl - especially Americans about the many number of Racial Taboos and Slurs thats drawn in the in-walls of their society !! OK then , Enough of the Intellectual Shit !! For God's sake its one one of the DAMN FUNNIEST movies i ve ever seen !! Well , it may be even because i have nt seen his TV shows on the ALi-G show before i watched this movie ! after watchin this , i raided youtube to watch all his episodes on the ALi-G show !! :) One of the reasons i think Borat aint at the top may be the second half of the movie - when he goes in search of "Pam" to marry her !! Although the stuff is funny it aint that intellectual or though provoking like the first half issues !! Theres nothing more to say than that its a towering achievement in comedy and by creating an Anti-semitic , misogynist and bigoted character Borat aptly embodies all kindsa racy taboos !! I just cant stop watchin it ! :)

Well , i even remember now , watching an interview of Keanu Reeves during e preview of The Matrix on E Tonight ! Me and my friends only wondered at the special effect fight sequences thats spoken about even today and forever to come - but none of us had a clear idea behind the story ! :) It was only when i watched it the second time (along with sequels in a 3 in 1 DVD collection ) during my early college days that i understood what exactly was happening !! :) And like many others , even i loved Matrix 1 more than Reloaded and Revolution !! I even slept half way through Matrix Revolutions :) he he..

PS - Me and my friends hated this character of "Oracle" - we used to call her "Paati"(thats Nanny in English) because she used to keep on talking and we understood nothing !! So we used to FWD it all and go staright to the fights !! :)

This is yet another movie that I always wonder , why it did nt make it to the 250 !! Maybe its the same case as with a lotta Comedies ! They just dont make it !! :-/ Anyway its from the makers of "Shaun of the dead"- The Best Horror Comedy movie that i ve seen !! Ppl who like "Scary movie" series must watch this and after that , they wd tell to them how useless these "Scary movie" flicks are !! Anyway , coming back to HotFuzz - this time , its a "Thriller Comedy" !!! The cast is same as that of Shaun of the dead ! Although the humour is not as much as in Shaun of the dead , its still leaves you in splits !! The last half an hour is just so hilarious !!! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are so damn good in their roles !!! I was oddly surprised to find that it was incredibly violent, albeit, in a cartoony way, but it will definitely make you squint . Another thing that i was surprised at is "Are nt the British supposed to be DUMB ???" Lol.. I never know how the British made this mivie - so witty and funny !! Hmmm , i should agree , Even the British have a sense of humour !!! :)

Well , as I was in the final year of my college life , Our juniors arranged us a farewell party two months back !! We the Graduation ppl came up with the idea of weraing the Same type of T-Shirt on the Farewell day to make the occation even more memorable !! But then there started the trouble !! We decided upon the design by ourselves without any help from the T-Shirts company and what more ? They did nt even tell us the delivery date telling that since it was a Bulk Order , they had loads of work and it would take Time !! At that time we never knew about bluecotton.com - the best place for getting made up your custom t-shirts !!! Else we would have gone for it !!

Well this classic , can be called as the Mother of all Feel-Good movies !! :) Its Soooo very feel good , that it has become an american traditin and a Christmas movie there !! There aint a single christmas without this flick on TV !! :) And its just not feel-good , but has some staunch msgs in it as well !! Its one of courage and sacrifice for the greater good as Bailey, a man with big ideas about seeing the world, continually forsakes his own desires to do what is right for his town. The second message is that each of our lives is important. No matter how insignificant we feel we are, we are all inextricably linked to each other and play an important part in the fabric of one another's lives. LOL.. Thats Chaos theory for U !! Who would ve thought that a 1946 theory would ve explained Chaos theory when no one knew what thius theory was !! :)

A Trivia for u that i got from IMDB : It was nominated for five academy awards that year and won NONE. It was swept by `The Best Years of Our Lives', a film that won seven Oscars that year , but history has made this Movie way on top than its Oscar competitor !! Yep.. Its in 30 whereas BEst years of our lives is in the 180's !! :)
