Like many , Im also a great fan of Hitchcock's films !! Although Psycho is my favourit Hitchcock movie of all time , am surprised to see "Rear Window" and "North By Northwest" placed ahead of Vertigo in the IMDB Top 250 !! Although it may have an ounce less of suspense when compared to other Hitchcock flicks , this film has been regarded as the most personal, emotional, and complex of Hitchcock's films. There are phenomenal performances here by Jimmy Stewart who plays the biggest anti-hero of his career and Kim Novak whose stunning beauty and exceptional personalities shine through this dark film. Everything about this film, the cinematography, the story, the depth, etc. leaves you mystified and transfixed on this dizzying, surreal artwork of a film. It truly is flawless. If you are a Hitchcock fan and haven't seen this you need to get up right now and buy, not rent, this as soon as possible!

Russel Peters has always been my favourit Indian Stand Up comedian - although he's an NRI born and brought up in the US !! He's one of the funniest stand-up comedians out there !! Living in India , i dont get a chance to go on costly vacations often !! So its been a long time since i went to the US ! It was during 1996 that i visited Atlanta,Georgia to witness the Summer Olympics 96 held there , and stayed with my uncle who lives in Downtown Atlanta ! It truly was an unforgettable experience and will live in my memory for always ! Although the Olympic games were held only in the Centennial park , near the CNN Center and Philips arena - i also had the oppurtunity to go to the various hot spots of Atlanta City !! Some of the places i went around include the various parks such as the Kennesaw Mountain National Park, Grant Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden !! A funny incident during my Atlanta tours was going to "Mission Impossible" at the Atlanta Fabulous Fox theater !! :) I was a great Tom Cruise fan then and i Whistled loudly when he appeared on screen - thinking i was sitting in a theater here in India :p ALmost everyone in the theater looked back at me ! :p And another great attraction that i visited in atlanta is the Underground Atlanta where it is very easy to get lost !! And again i have a reason for it ! :) I saw the Tamil version of this movie and it absolutely sucked - and when i saw this movie at No.37 - i learnt how bad they have adapted this movie into Tamil ! IMDB review of Leon The Professional :

Luc Besson's movie Léon (The Professional) gives us an intense story which is maximized in potential by the casting of the movie done by Todd Thaler. Every aspect of the movie delivers to the audience and makes an impressive overall package. Jean Reno plays a character named Léon who has learned to repress his emotions in order to perform his job as a "cleaner", or hit-man. His secluded world is shattered by the young girl named Mathilda who lives on the same floor as he does in an apartment building. When she turns to him for help, he learns about living a normal life, even if the circumstances which unite them are far from normal.

The performance delivered by then twelve-year old Natalie Portman as Mathilda is nothing short of brilliant. Her ability to relate to others with body movement and facial gestures is matched by few, she really brings raw emotion and believability to a difficult role. Mathilda and Léon are unexpectedly thrown together, but learn to value life from their chance encounter, and how valuable a friendship can be.

Jean Reno as Léon gives us a solemn and calculated character who sets all of his energy on his assignments until her is given something else to care about. Mathilda gives him the daughter that he never had, while Léon serves as a father and friend to her. Gary Oldman, as the corrupt DEA Agent Norman Stansfield, offers the viewers an amazingly wired and electrical performance which pushes the envelope. He moves the story along by his actions. Oldman offers us a memorable portrait of a sadistically obsessed man who stops short of nothing to get what he wants.

The Professional is what movie-making is all about. Without the overuse of special effects, a large shooting location, or a commercially star studded cast, we are given all that could possibly be asked for in a movie. Portman, Oldman, and Reno, along with Danny Aiello as the hit-contractor Tony remind us that there is no substitute for great acting. There are elements of comedy, drama, and action, and great original music by Eric Serra adds to the energy the film already encapsulates. The most impressive thing about the movie is its story which is basic but is maximized by all the other elements which go into the making of the movie. Simply put, an intense and impressive movie.

Another reason for my dislike was the gist of the story that i heard from my friend - "Boy meets gal - Gal likes boy - Boy does nt like gal - When boy finally likes gal , he comes to know gal has cancer " ! I was like YUCK - thats even more worse than a Bollywood romantic movie !! But then , at the end of the movie - i started hating myself so much because i had actually liked the movie so much !! :) May be mainly beacuse of the performances of the two leads Shane West and Mandy Moore ! Also it is the film's very simplicity and lack of pretension that lends to it ! For ppl who like this movie , i would suggest P.S.I love you - which will be my next movie on "Looking beyond the 250".

Ever since i heard that this movie won 5 oscars and swiped the 1999 oscars, i was pretty eager to watch it ! I finally got my chance to watch it only last month !! And i was glad that i finally watched it !! It truly deserves the recognition and the Oscars !! Although there are really funny moments through out the movie - i wont call this a comedy - maybe a "Black comedy" with umpteen lessons for life !! Well , there are very few movies that make you laugh and think simultaneously ! American Beauty is one of those few gem of a movies ! After watching this movie, viewers will think long and hard about their own lives as well as the lives of people around them. Because each and every character in the movie - not only that of Kevin Spacey - provides us something thing to ponder over - that happens in our everyday life - but we are hesitant to take notice of !

Like for example , the character "Carolyn Burnham" shields herself from sadness by adopting a positive-thinking philosophy, a philosophy of self-affirming mantras and harsh self-discipline. Positive thinking may help you attain your goals, but that also blinds you from reality. Is it wise or moral to change the channel when you hear about mass starvation in Africa so you can enjoy moments of fleeting happiness from some romantic movie? Self-help is just a euphemism for self-deception. All humans need some complex kinda fraudulent way to distract them from the harsh realities of life, whether it's religion, money, or even love :)

So this flick , is not only is it entertaining but it is also filled with interesting ideas. It's an important film for society because there's so much society needs to learn.

First of all , Thanks to my dear friend Demiera for Re-introducing me to this Greatest genre of music !! "Chill-out" - "Soul" - "Smooth Jazz" - watever you wanna call it - is one heck of a genre in music provided to the world by the 80's !!
