An Indian's Olympic Dream !!

Well , right from morning i ve been reading a lots of posts on the Olympics opening ceremony in many blogs ! So i thought - Why not i myself post one , but well, in the Indian perspective ! I have seen some grand spectacles unfold on the TV screen for years - but never have i seen something so grandeur and splendid that even words cannot explain !! But then , these things i saw , only made me wonder about the pathetic and hopeless Sporting situation here in India !!

For years , we have nt seen even a single gold medal ! Last time around we had got only a single Silver ! What an absolute shame for a country thats in midst of his Golden-age with growing techno boom and is on verge of becoming a Developed nation !! When tiny island nations can make it to the medal tally - why not a naion of a billion ppl ?! Well , the reasons might be simple !! India is just a "one-sport" nation !! Many dont even know a single sport other than Cricket (which ofcourse is not there in the Olypic event) !! And the government which does nt allocate good funds for Sports in India other than Cricket ! Well the situation has become worse this time - as India's only medal hopes from the sport of Hockey - did nt even make it through the Qualifiers this time !! :-/

Well , what is the solution for all this then ?? More funds for other sports ?? A better sporting infrastructure ?? Well , along with these, the ppl's perception and attitude should also change ! They should get into other sports as well and not just stick to cricket !

Anyway coming back to yesterday's Opening ceremony - although i loved the entire show - am still a pathetically Patriotic Indian !! So the most favt moment of the show was when my fellow country men walked into the stadium- that left me with goosebumps !! :) Here it is for your viewing !

I still hope to watch the opening ceremony again! Wonder will there be another telecast again, the last one was 6am this morning... miss the whole thing.

Cool that you found the youtube video of your folks marching in the opening ceremony, I couldn't find a single photo of our Team Singapore!!! OMG! I think SG pin their only medal on table tennis, and guess what, the players are immigrants from China. =P Anyway, it's a global village now, maybe one day one of the Team members is from India too heheheh.

You guys play cricket?? I've tried playing once but I had much more fun hitting people with the mallet and throwing the ball all over the place =D

I, too, am not over yet that totally effin' fantastic opening. I am sooo envious of those who are really present there. Like how I wished I have been there in that historical event. China really did it but just imagine... 7 years in the making. Wow.

I also witnessed the marching of the Philippine Team. It is just really unfortunate that our government cant send more athletes because they are very much in love with corruption. Hehe.

Here , almost everyone plays cricket ! And Lol.. Its the first time am hearing that an American has tried playin cricket !! :P How come ?! And hey thats just called a "Bat" - not a mallet here :)

Lol.. Your govt cant send more athletes cos its corrupt ? Well here , we dont have enough Athletes at all :p (Although our govt is corrupt too:)

Congratulations on India's gold medal!

China has been piling up on the golds in the 2008 Beijing Olympics Medal Count/Tally since day one. Hope the US catches up with the remainder of the swimming events and the athletics events coming up.
